CSA Architecture was commissioned for a significant and challenging project: the Yeni Kapı Sea Bus Terminal in Istanbul. Dubbed the “Yeni Kapı Project,” this undertaking aimed to transform a dilapidated industrial site into a vibrant, mixed-use community space that harmoniously integrates residential, commercial, and public areas.
The Riverside Project faced a twofold challenge: on the one hand, there was the need to preserve the historic fabric of the area, which held great cultural value for the local community. On the other hand, the project required sustainable and environmentally friendly construction solutions that were consistent with our commitment to environmental responsibility. The complexity of this mixed-use development necessitated striking a delicate balance between modern functionality and historic preservation.
Our solution:
Our approach began with extensive consultations with local historians, residents, and environmental experts. Our design respects the area's industrial past; we have integrated existing structures into the new design wherever possible, and utilized recycled materials.
In terms of sustainability, we implemented the latest green technologies. This included solar panels, green roof systems, and advanced water recycling systems. Our construction methods prioritized energy efficiency while minimizing environmental impact; using local materials to reduce waste and implementing the project with meticulous planning were our priorities.
